Scottish Wedding Photography | The Caves
Ross & Nicola’s wedding at The Caves in Edinburgh was such a brilliant day and extra special to me as the bride and groom are 2 of myy best friends. I knew that their day would be really special – and that is exactly what it turned out to be
I would like to say a huge thank you to Ross and Nicola for asking me to be their Scottish wedding photographer, it was a real honour to be asked to capture such a beautiful day, and also for sharing their wedding story below. I wish you both a lifetime of happiness together
Tell us how you first met?
We both worked for Arcadia Group – me at Burtons and Nic at Evans. We knew each other (only vaguely) from there, and Nic decided to get in touch with me through Facebook to see if I wanted to meet up. It just went on from there.
When did you know he/she was the one? Was it something that they did? Etc
Ross – It was more a gradual thing for me. The more time I spent with Nic the more time I wanted to spend with her. For the most part, she’s just really easy and fun to be around.
Nic – I really enjoyed getting to know Ross and being in his company. He was quite reserved and shy to begin with but I think the fact I could probably talk to an empty room helped him come out his shell. I think we clicked pretty quickly and we both enjoyed each other’s company very early in our relationship.
Tell us about the proposal, (did you see it coming, how long was it in the planning, how did you feel, nervous, excited, freaking out?)
Ross – I had been planning the proposal for a while, although Nic made things difficult. First, she wouldn’t let me go over to her parent’s to ask her dad about marrying her on my own, resulting in me having to make some elaborate story up about going out for a drink with my dad in order to get over to her parents. Then on the day I was going to propose, she was huffy and stroppy due to bad weather and a temperamental four year old. Finally found a nice spot to do it, and with Jake’s help I got down on one knee and asked. I was more nervous than I’d ever been!
Nic – We both discussed the idea of getting married and even looked at rings however I didnt think Ross was going to propose when he did. I was a total nightmare that day, the weather was freezing and Ross was determined to find a beach or even tried walking up to the lighthouse. I couldn’t understand why anyone would want to do such a thing on a freezing cold day. Bless him, he meant well! The proposal was completely understated which made it even more romantic.
Tell us one thing that you love most about each other
Ross – Nic’s ability to make me feel happy and comfortable just being myself.
Nic – The way Ross looks at me. I’ve never felt so safe and secure around someone until I met Ross. It’s hard to describe but I just see happiness and love in his eyes which makes me feel so loved.
Why did you choose Duddingston Kirk and The Caves as the venues for your wedding
Ross – The Caves was the only venue we ended up looking at! We didn’t go there thinking we would decide on it right there, but after seeing it we were set. It’s really quite different and suited us down to the ground.
Nic – From a very young age I always wanted to get married at Duddingston Kirk and I was so happy when Ross agreed to get married there. Like most things with our wedding the Caves just fell into place, we only viewed one reception venue and we both instantly fell in love with it.
Besides getting married, what is the one thing that you look forward to the most on the wedding day
Ross – I’m just looking forward to being in the company of everyone that I care about (and hopefully that care about me!) for them all to see how happy I’ll be by marrying Nic. Finally seeing Nic in her dress will be very special too.
Nic – Wearing my dress haha! I’m useless at keeping secrets and I have no idea how I’ve managed to keep my mouth shut for so long! I just can’t wait to celebrate the happiest day of my life with the people who mean the most to me.
Is there anything that you wish you knew earlier when it comes to planning a wedding?
Ross – The planning for the wedding has (so far) gone really well. The only thing I would say is that it’s infinitely easier to just up sticks and do it without telling anyone. Saves a lot of trouble!
Nic – Out with a couple of grumbles within the families, this wedding planning business is easy peasy and I’ll actually miss it!
